In Semester 1, 2025, I am organising a reading group about Galois theory. Our group is meeting each week on Wednesday, 4–6 pm. If you are interested in joining the group, please email me and I will add you to the mailing list.
We are following J.S. Milne's book Fields and Galois Theory, which is available here. Keith Conrad's expository papers on fields and Galois theory may also be useful references. Reading Milne's book requires and understanding of groups and rings at the level taught in MATH3303. Anyone is welcome to join this reading group, but it is probably best suited for people who took MATH3303 in 2024 or earlier.
Below is the current schedule for the group. Note the Week column refers to the week of the reading group, not the university semester. Click on the link for each week for a more detailed breakdown of the sections we are covering, and for exercises for that week.
