Hi, my name is Declan. I'm interested in mathematics and, more broadly, quantitative problem solving. I graduated with an Honours degree in Mathematics from the University of Queensland in mid-2025; my supervisor was Masoud Kamgarpour. Currently, I'm working as an Associate at Apogee in Perth. At Apogee, I work on problems in data analysis and data visualisation, amongst other things.

You can contact me by emailing declan.fletcher at uq.edu.au. Here is a nice formula:

\[ 1 - \frac{1}{3} + \frac{1}{5} - \frac{1}{7} + \frac{1}{9} - \frac{1}{11} + \cdots = \frac{\pi}{4}. \]

Mathematics

At the moment, I'm learning about modular forms, following Serre's book.

In Semester 1, 2025, I organised a reading group about Galois theory.

Below are some of my writings and talks from my studies:

Previous Work

During my studies, I worked as a tutor. I tutored numerous first-, second-, and third-year mathematics and statistics courses, including MATH3303, MATH3401, and STAT2004.

I was a trading intern at VivCourt in Sydney during summer 2023/24.

Music

Outside of work and study, my passion is listening to and playing music; my main instruments are the bass guitar and double bass. In 2024, I played in the Brisbane-based indie rock band SHED FIENDS, and recorded our single Dirt. From 2018 to 2022, I played in the QYO Big Band; you can watch some of my performances with the band here, here, and here.
